Dear Mr. Simitian,

My name is Domenic Noto and I am a senior at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo. In my senior theology class, my partner and I are doing our social justice project. The injustice that we are investigating is the inherent media bias in television news broadcasts. I am writing to you to express my concerns about this injustice in hope that something can be done to stop this injustice.

Through our investigation, my partner and I have discovered the root of injustice within the media and television news. The main problem is that those people who have power within news stations slant the focus of their news broadcasts towards their own or their political parties agenda. This creates a problem in reporting on the stories because they are not objective. News reporters will often leave out information that would support the opposing side of the issue, in order to make their side of the issue seem like it is the right side. This is an injustice to those who watch the news because they do not get an accurate picture and idea of the whole story. Instead, they get a biased, one-sided story. Because of this, viewers make ill informed decisions based on these biased reports.

I am writing this to you in hope that something can be done to aid this problem. I understand that news stations have complete control over what they put on television. But I believe that that news reporters and news stations should be forced to provide objective and accurate stories on their news stations. Hopefully something can be done to fix this injustice.

Sincerely,

Domenic Noto
